This course teaches first responders and allied professionals the basic medical care interventions, which can save an injured person’s life until they can be assisted by conventional EMS. It uses the principles of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and meets the recommendations of the Hartford Consensus documents and the Committee on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC) guidelines.
Understand the rationale for immediate steps of hemorrhage control (including external hemorrhage control, direct pressure and wound packing, early use of tourniquet for severe hemorrhage, internal hemorrhage control by rapid evacuation, and transportation to major hospital/trauma center).
Demonstrate the competent application of a tourniquet to the arm and leg (typically in less than 20 seconds).
Demonstrate the correct application of a topical hemostatic dressing (combat gauze).
Describe the progressive strategy for controlling catastrophic hemorrhage.
Describe appropriate airway control techniques and basic adjunct devices.
Recognize the tactically relevant indicators of shock.
Receive a certificate of completion from Medicine in Bad Places.
This Course is funded by Guardian Revival and is FREE for ALL Law Enforcement Officers. Every participant will be issued an INDIVIDUAL FIRST AID KIT (IFAK) upon completion of training.
